Position Summary

The Business Development Representative is responsible for executing the sales function to drive sustainable new business growth and long-term client partnerships. This role is directly accountable for disciplined prospecting, intentional relationship nurturing, and high-quality proposal development to ensure a healthy pipeline and consistent sales results. 

This role takes ownership of results, serves others with humility, embraces continuous improvement, and holds a high standard for quality and follow-through. The Business Development Representative plays a key role in expanding Puritan’s footprint while protecting our reputation and living out our values.

Core Responsibilities

  • Prospecting: Identify, research, and qualify new prospects within our target markets. Focus on pursuing the right opportunities—those that align with Puritan’s service capabilities, values, and long-term partnership goals. Complete thorough documentation of the entire process using our CRM.
  • Nurture Relationships: Build trust through regular, thoughtful communication with prospects. Maintain consistent check-ins, provide value throughout the sales process, and steward relationships with patience and integrity.
  • Submit Clear, High-Quality Proposals: Lead the development and submission of accurate, professional proposals and RFP responses. Ensure pricing, scope, and service commitments are clearly defined, competitive, and operationally sound.
  • Pursue Excellence in Sales Execution: Manage the full sales cycle—from initial outreach to contract award—with attention to detail and consistency. Ensure commitments made during the sales process can be delivered with excellence in operations.
  • Embrace Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Seek better, smarter ways to prospect, nurture, and propose by refining processes, leveraging technology, and adapting to changing market conditions. Bring fresh ideas and continually raise the bar.
  • Lead with Data and Insight: Monitor, analyze, and report key sales metrics including prospecting activity, pipeline growth, proposals submitted, close rates, margins, and overall revenue performance. Use data to guide decisions and strengthen results.
  • Partner Across the Organization: Collaborate closely with operations, marketing, and account management to ensure smooth onboarding, strong service delivery, and long-term client retention.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in executing sales efforts within B2B service industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success selling recurring service contracts and navigating longer, consultative sales cycles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of CRM systems, sales forecasting, analytics, and disciplined pipeline management.
  • A leadership style grounded in stewardship and humility.
  • A mindset oriented toward stewardship, humility, innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
  • High standards for excellence, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated high emotional intelligence, with the ability to read situations accurately, adapt communication style, and build trust with prospective clients and team members.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Availability for frequent travel throughout our target market to prospect, nurture relationships, and attend walkthroughs.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: starts between $50,000 - $70,000 + Commission on each account sold (estimated commission $10,000 - $30,000 annually)
