Job Summary/Purpose

The Environmental Services (EVS) Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital’s environmental services department. This includes supervising EVS staff, ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards, managing departmental budgets and supplies, and maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in accordance with Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, and hospital standards. The EVS Manager plays a critical role in patient satisfaction, infection control, and the overall healthcare environment.

 

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

·        Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the EVS team, including scheduling, assigning tasks, and performance monitoring.

·        Ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of all hospital areas including patient rooms, operating rooms, common areas, offices, and public restrooms.

·        Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs to ensure Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, and hospital regulatory compliance.

·        Conduct routine inspections to assess cleanliness and environmental safety and implement corrective actions as needed.

·        Train and orient new staff and provide ongoing education on infection prevention and safety protocols.

·        Serve as a liaison with clinical, nursing, and administrative departments to ensure high-quality service and respond to service requests.

·        Manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

·        Monitor and manage departmental budget, labor hours, and operational costs efficiently.

·        Investigate and resolve complaints regarding EVS services in a timely and professional manner.

·        Maintain records related to staff training, performance evaluations, safety incidents, and compliance.

·        Ensure appropriate handling and disposal of biohazardous waste in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.

 

Role Minimum Qualifications

 

Required Education

·        High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Licensure and Certifications                -Post Hire

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental services or housekeeping in a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of supervisory or management experience required.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, and infection control requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning, disinfection, and biohazardous waste handling protocols.
  • Ability to train and manage a diverse team in a fast-paced, 24/7 healthcare environment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and hospital-based systems (e.g., Kronos, Workday, bed board systems).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, Healthcare Management, Environmental Services, or related field
