Job Title: Janitorial – Cleaner

 

Summary

The Janitorial Cleaner is responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a safe, clean, and orderly environment. This role involves physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and operating cleaning equipment. Tasks must be performed in accordance with safety standards and company procedures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following functions are considered essential to this position:

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Perform general cleaning tasks, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming.
  • Clean and restock restrooms with necessary supplies.
  • Conduct wet mopping, damp dusting, and spot cleaning.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, doors, door handles, countertops, and tabletops.
  • Remove waste and empty trash containers.
  • Perform carpet spotting and basic floor care.
  • Organize and maintain janitorial storage areas and cleaning carts.
  • Assist with any other tasks as needed that are related to janitorial duties and cleaning services.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report to manager /supervisors of any unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment needing repair.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment at all times.

 

Work Performance

  • Complete all assigned cleaning tasks within shift timelines.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
  • Participate in safety programs, training sessions, and ongoing development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; tasks may change based on operational needs.
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to be cross-trained across different cleaning or support roles.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, safety guidelines, and training materials.

 

Physical Requirements (Essential Job Functions)

These physical demands are considered essential for performing this job:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, crawl, and climb.
  • Ability to reach above shoulders and perform side-to-side motions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds routinely.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, odors, noise, and fluctuating indoor temperatures.

 

Work Environment

  • Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
  • Wet or slippery floors in some areas.
  • Indoor environments such as office buildings, commercial sites, or industrial locations.
  • Occasional noise or vibration from equipment.

 

Attendance Requirements

  • Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must be able to work assigned schedules and communicate promptly regarding absences.
