Maintains grounds of campus property by performing the following duties. 

Essential Functions

  • Provide direction and oversight to grounds staff. 
  • Select, hire, train and schedule staff. 
  • Schedule and direct seasonal lawn maintenance activities such as: 
  • Lawn cutting 
  • Pruning of shrubs and trees 
  • Application of fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides 
  • Clean grounds and remove littler 
  • Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees as necessary 
  • Direct and assist, when necessary, in preventive maintenance of fences, gates, walls, and walks 
  • Direct snow removal from walks, driveways, and parking lots. 
  • Proactively maintain public passageways and walkways so they are free from ice, water, and other hazards. 
  • Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts. 
  • May direct or make minor repairs and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools such as lawn mower, spreader, show removal equipment and weed cutter, edging tools, and shears 
  • Drive campus / company truck on and off campus. 
  • Attendance/Punctuality – is consistently at work and on time

Directly supervises grounds employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Skills:   

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos 
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical computations 
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
