Location: Multi-State / Field-Based / Corporate Office – Brea, CA

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Employee Relations & Compliance is a critical leadership role responsible for driving a proactive, consistent, and legally compliant employee relations strategy across a multi-state, multi-unit hospitality services organization. This role will lead complex employee relations matters, oversee compliance programs, and partner closely with field operations to mitigate risk, strengthen leadership capability, and foster a culture of accountability, fairness, and respect.

Supporting a diverse workforce—including housekeeping, janitorial, window cleaning, and front- and back-of-house employees—this role operates at both a strategic and hands-on level, ensuring alignment between business objectives, legal requirements, and employee experience.

Compensation: $125,000-145,000 Exempt Annual

Key Responsibilities

 

Employee Relations Leadership

  • Lead and manage complex, high-risk employee relations matters including investigations, terminations, harassment/discrimination claims, and workplace complaints
  • Conduct thorough, impartial investigations; provide clear, well-documented findings and recommendations
  • Partner with legal counsel as needed on sensitive matters and potential litigation risk
  • Establish consistent ER practices, documentation standards, and case management protocols across all locations
  • Provide guidance and coaching to leaders on performance management, corrective action, and conflict resolution

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with strong emphasis on California wage & hour, meal/rest breaks, and classification laws
  • Develop, implement, and audit policies, procedures, and practices to mitigate legal and operational risk
  • Monitor and interpret changes in employment law across multiple states; translate into actionable guidance
  • Oversee and enhance compliance programs including harassment prevention, workplace conduct, and policy adherence
  • Partner with Safety/Workers’ Compensation leadership to address overlapping risk areas (e.g., injury-related ER issues, return-to-work concerns

Field Partnership & Operational Support

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to operations leaders across multi-unit environments
  • Provide real-time, practical HR guidance balancing compliance with business needs
  • Travel as needed to support field locations, conduct investigations, and reinforce HR standards
  • Support high-volume, hourly workforce environments with a strong understanding of operational realities

Leadership & Capability Building

  • Train and develop managers on employee relations best practices, legal compliance, and documentation standards
  • Build leadership capability in handling employee issues proactively and effectively
  • Drive consistency in decision-making across regions and functions

Process Improvement & Infrastructure

  • Implement or enhance ER case management systems (e.g., NAVEX or similar) to ensure tracking, reporting, and audit readiness
  • Analyze trends in employee relations data to identify risk patterns and recommend solutions
  • Develop scalable tools, templates, and frameworks to support a growing organization

Qualifications

  • 8 plus years of progressive HR experience, with strong focus in employee relations and compliance
  • Experience in hospitality, janitorial, facilities services, retail, or other high-volume, hourly workforce environments strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of California employment law and multi-state compliance
  • Proven experience leading complex investigations and managing high-risk employee relations matters
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to operate in fast-paced, operationally driven environments
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior leadership and field operations teams
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
