Position Summary

The Director of Purchasing oversees company purchasing and procurement operations to ensure goods and services are obtained in a timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner. This role manages vendor relationships, purchasing processes, contract negotiations, inventory controls, warehouse operations, and purchasing budgets while supporting operational efficiency and company growth.

The Director of Purchasing partners with Operations, Finance, Safety, Warehouse, and Executive Leadership to support company goals, operational needs, compliance standards, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies and procedures.
  • Ensure consistent procurement practices across all regions and accounts.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Forecast purchasing needs based on operational demands.
  • Improve procurement efficiency and purchasing processes.
  • Support timely purchasing and delivery coordination.

Vendor & Contract Mgmt.

  • Source, evaluate, and onboard vendors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, rebates, and service agreements.
  • Monitor vendor performance and compliance requirements.
  • Resolve vendor concerns and maintain vendor records.
  • Ensure vendors meet company and safety requirements.

Financial & Budget Mgmt.

  • Develop and manage purchasing budgets.
  • Monitor spending and purchasing activity.
  • Analyze purchasing trends and operational costs.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve accountability.
  • Support audits, reporting, and financial planning.

Inventory & Warehouse Operations

  • Oversee inventory systems and controls.
  • Track equipment, supplies, and company assets.
  • Establish reorder points and inventory procedures.
  • Support inventory audits and warehouse operations.
  • Manage shipping, receiving, storage, and distribution functions.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and operational readiness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations to support service delivery and projects.
  • Collaborate with Safety on compliance standards.
  • Support Sales and Operations with pricing and proposals.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and planning initiatives.
  • Maintain communication with operational teams and leadership.

Compliance & Leadership

  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Establish controls to prevent waste and unauthorized purchases.
  • Maintain purchasing documentation and records.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Lead and develop purchasing staff and warehouse personnel.
  • Conduct meetings, evaluations, and training initiatives.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Mgmt., Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience

  • 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, inventory, or supply chain experience required.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Multi-site or service-based operations experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong negotiation and vendor Mgmt. skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with purchasing systems, ERP platforms, inventory systems, and Microsoft Office.
